A petition has recently appeared online in reaction to the news that Marvel Studios has decided to replace Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle for the role of James Rhodes/War Machine in the sequel to this summer's blockbuster Iron Man. (Apparently, Howard was so psyched about the chance to be War Machine that he was already bulking up for the part ahead of time when he read the news in the trades. Man, that would suck.) I personally believe that Howard did a fantastic job with his performance and that playing musical chairs with the chemistry that the cast had in the first movie is a poor decision on the part of the studio. Apparently, I'm not alone. At the time of this post, the site already has 2020 supporters in about 10 days with very little exposure. That's pretty impressive. The initiators of the petition had this to say: "Terrence Howard will need to be in Iron Man 2, or else Continuity will destroy the entire Franchise. Show your support, and sign! Its obvious. You don't replace major characters in summer block buster movies. Just plain stupid Marvel is under the impression that just any person can play Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes. They are sadly mistaken. Marvel asked Terrence Howard to be Rhodey. He signed on to play Rhodey. Terrence Howard became Rhodey. We were under the impression that when you signed a contract with someone, it was their word."
That may be a little extreme, but hey, if you personally feel that Terrance Howard did a fine job and shouldn't be replaced, why not take 30 seconds and sign their petition here. Couldn't hurt, right?
