Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Cival War?

Last year when Activision first released information on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, it seemed like a nice ensemble game of good versus evil, much like the previous incarnation, as seen in this 2008 trailer:

The new trailer unveiled at the this year's NYCC just days ago, however, definitely makes the game look a lot more like hero versus hero in what appears to be a video game version of the blockbuster Marvel mini-series Civil War.

Though, the game is simply being marketed as "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2" (the "Fusion" has now been dropped), many of the screen shots depict scenes straight out the pages of the Civil War storyline, in which (after a horrible accident in Stamford, just like in the game) the government has decided that superhumans are too dangerous to work outside of government control and have (with the help of Iron Douchebag Tony Stark) passed he Superhuman Registration Act, which makes it illegal for any superhero to live in the U.S. without registering their powers and personal information, but everyone knows that heroes protect their identities to protect their loved ones. Anyone who does not comply is considered a criminal and will be hunted down by the government's pro-registration "heroes" lead by the golden boy himself Iron Man. In a surprising twist, Captain America (now branded a criminal and hated by the majority of the population the he is standing up for) becomes the leader of the those rebelling against this government sanction, believing that it violates every American's civil rights. The trailer shows Captain America being apprehended by Agent Maria Hill and Shield much like in the comic (the outcome of Civil War is what directly lead to the assassination of Captain America). It also appears that the heroes in the game have chosen the same sides as in the comic. Well, if the game is anything even close to the Marvel story, I say bring it on.

FANBOYS

Finally, after multiple delays and more controversy than R. Kelly's home videos, Fanboys graces the theaters this weekend...finally (again). Originally scheduled for release on August 17, 2007, Fanboys had already been screened by George Lucas, who not only gave it two thumbs up, but allowed the filmmakers to use official Star Wars sound FX to enhance the overall feel of the film. Director Kevin Smith was so taken by the screening that he saw that he asked for a cameo in the film, to which the filmmakers gladly obliged. In fact, the film was getting such positive feedback that director Kyle Newman was given extra funding AFTER shooting the film, which he was more than happy to use to shoot additional scenes. The problem with that? He wouldn't be able to get the ensemble back together again until about a month after the movie was scheduled to be released. Now, I'm no expert but I would have to think that may a cause a logistical problem or three. The solution? Postpone the release. Now the film was looking at an early 2008 date. Due to some executive decisions, additional shooting would not take place until around the end of the year and without Newman.

Steven Brill was brought in to "lighten the film". He would remove the main subplot that Linus (played by Chris Marquette) was suffering from terminal cancer and inject the film with more cheap laughs and vulgarities...you know, for entertainment value (must be shooting for an Oscar). Now there existed two versions of the film, so the Weinstein Company decided to screen both version to audiences in Burbank and see which was more well-received. It was decided at this point that the film would now be released around April, 2008. Dedicated fans berated Brill for his uninspired butchering of the film and an online campaign was started to have the film released closer to Newman's original vision. Brill retaliated with barrage of slurs and profanities in response to people's comments, including calling the fans losers and even threatening to hunt one person down.

Newman responded to Brill's action in one interview saying:
"If you're going to go in and re-cut someone's film even though you're not even a fan of the subject matter, just because you want a paycheck, you're not passionate about it, then do that. But don't go opening your mouth and alienating the core audience of that movie. I just thought that was the most low class thing that you could do, especially considering there are so many people that worked years and years and years on this"

Ultimately, the fans' voices were heard and the producers brought Kyle Newman back in to re-edit the film closer to his original vision, including the cancer storyline (which is really the main motivation of the film). Newman and his original team were given a mere 36 hours to come in and re-edit the film. The final version of the film was screened at the 2008 San Diego Comicon, where it was announced that Fanboys would be in theaters on September 19. After the film was pushed back again to November 26, fans eager to see the film began to lose hope that it would ever get released. When the film missed it's November release, it was rumored the Fanboys would now be a DVD release, so when the Weinstein Company announced a release date for February 6 it became a "I'll believe it when I see it" type of situation. Well, I saw it. I believed it. And I LOVED it. I can't wait to see what they do with the DVD considering how much footage they have. It should be...interesting.

FANBOYS: BEHIND THE SCENES

TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER DVD

If you've read Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons classic graphic novel Watchmen and you're anticipating the upcoming film adaptation, you've got to be asking yourself, "How exactly are they going to work the secondary material like The Black Freighter into the film?" Well, the answer is...they won't. Instead they will be releasing Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood (which is a story within the story of the Watchmen graphic novel) on DVD to enhance the theatrical release of the film. How much would you pay? -don't answer yet, because as an added bonus the DVD will include the live-action/CGI mockumentary Under the Hood based on the book written by Hollis Mason (the first Nite Owl). NOW how much would you pay? -but wait there's more. This special DVD will also feature: Story Within a story: The Books of Watchmen, a first look at the Green Lantern animated feature, and a digital copy (Blu-ray only). How much would you be willing to pay for this much entertaiment? It doesn't matter because your probably going to pay from $14.99 to $21.99 depending on where you purchase it. The Black Freighter will be in stores on March 24th. (Although, currently Amazon has a 2-disc special edition listed to come out on March 3, the same day as the film. Perplexing...)

UPDATE!!!

More news from the Watchmen home video front -Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic that many of you have been enjoying on iTunes is also making it's way to DVD/Blu-ray. Of course, you can still watch the episodes on iTunes right now and pay about the same as you would for the discs, but it's really a matter of preference. The Watchmen motion comic was actually very impressive. It really captured the story and the feel of the book. My one criticism would be that these guys couldn't spring to have a girl do the female voice? I mean, COME ON! You don't have a sister or a wife that you could pay with cookies or something? Eitherway, the motion comic hits shelves March 3 as Watchmen makes it to theaters. Now you can get up early, go get the motion comic and then go see the movie and know what to expect (until the new ending)...or you could have read the graphic novel way before then. It's really your choice. It doesn't matter to me. Whatever.

Batman gets pwned trying to play as himself in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. "That's what I did to Lois last night" -awesome.

Buffy Season 8 from Dark Horse

Like many, I thought "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" looked pretty silly when it was originally on the air. Eventually though, a coworker bullied me into borrowing her DVD collection and I finally became privy to the fact that it was one of the greatest television shows ever, and it's creator Joss Whedon is a genius. Just when fans were finally coming to terms with the fact the show was gone forever, Dark Horse Comics gives us one of the coolest treats ever with Buffy Season 8.
Why is this comic so great? Well, aside from picking up where the show left off and showing us the continuing adventures of Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies, and amazing painted covers by Jo Chen, the writers who originally worked on the show are working on the comic.
That's right, Joss Whedon is still the Executive Producer, and the current story arc is written by Jane Espenson, who penned many a great Buffy episode and is currently working on a little show called "Battlestar Galactica".
Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this, the latest issue has Sunnydale alum, turned Vampire, Harmony as the star of her own MTV reality series! There is now an army of slayers working in squads across the globe, and all of your favorite supporting players have made apperances, even Dracula!
In just 21 issues, Buffy has been to Japan, traveled into the future, tussled with the fallen Slayer Faith, got into a big old fight with Giles, and even had time for a lesbian affair (he he!). If you're one of those people who "doesn't read comics" don't sweat it, every 5 issues is collected into a graphic novel so you can just get those and save yourself the monthly trips to the comic store. If you never watched Buffy, do yourself a favor, after slapping yourself in the face for such a grevious transgression, go Netflix all 7 seven seasons right now. If you watched the show, go read Buffy season 8. If you are one of those Buffy fans who says- "I like having the show end when it ended, and I like to remember it just like that" Slap yourself in the face twice! What the heck is wrong with you!? Buffy Season 8 rocks!

SIN CITY is coming to Blu-Ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment just announced that fans of the Sin City movie will finally be able to get their Blu-ray fix when Sin City: Unrated, Recut, and Extended makes it's way to Blu-ray players on April 21st of this year. The disc set will feature both the theatrical and re-cut versions of the film. On the bonus features front, the set will include all of the extras from the earlier re-cut DVD, plus a "Kill 'Em Good" interactive comic and a Cine Explore visual commentary. It's possible that other extras will also be included. Not much information is available at this point. Now if we could just get the Weinsteins to release Kill Bill in the promised "The Whole Bloody Affair" edition with both installments re-edited back into one long movie like it was meant to and Grindhouse in all it's original theatrical goodness like Japan got, that would be quite the trifecta of movie bliss.

Transition to Digital TV delayed

Haven't gotten your digital converter box yet and you're stressing out about the coming change? Well, you can relax, at least for a little bit longer. This afternoon the House of Representatives have given analog television a temporary stay of execution at a vote of 264-158. Those jerks who voted against the delay claimed to be doing so for honorable reasons, but I would say it's more likely that those individuals have had their pockets lined by the digital cable companies who are waiting in the wings to profit from the transition. Anyway, here's the whole story:

[FROM MSNBC]

The House voted today 264-158 to delay the analog TV shutdown until June 12.

The nation was two weeks away from the original date of Feb. 17 for the digital transition, allowing broadcasters to replace analog TV signals with digital ones.

But the Obama administration and many Democrats asked for the delay, saying millions of people are not ready for the switch. The bill, already approved by the Senate, now goes to the president for his approval, considered a given. Still be resolved is the funding needed for more coupons to help consumers offset the cost of converter boxes. That issue will likely be considered as part of the economic stimulus legislation.

“The legislation passed by Congress provides more time for Americans to prepare for the (digital) transition and will allow more time for the government to fix the coupon program," said David Rehron, president of the National Association of Broadcasters.

Opponents of the delay said it will cause confusion for consumers, and that it is not fair to the wireless companies, including AT&T and Verizon Wireless, as well as public safety agencies that are waiting to use part of the airwave spectrum that will go to them once the switch is made.

"It's time for us to move forward on this and keep our word to the American people," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., calling for the transition to proceed Feb. 17.

With a nation in economic turmoil, the last thing on the to-do list of legislators should have been the transition to digital television. The changeover has been planned for years, yet the last 12 months were marked by public confusion about the switch and bureaucratic and political wrangling over a coupon program aimed at subsidizing the cost of converter boxes.

Yet the signs of trouble were there: the coupon subsidy program was running out of money, waiting lists were growing, and not enough public education in general was being done about the transition, the coupon program or how to hook up the converter boxes, which some have found troublesome.

“When government took their hands off the steering wheel of public education, a lot of confusion crept into the marketplace,” said Joel Kelsey, policy analyst for Consumers Union, which publishes Consumer Reports.

The Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration dispute that, pointing to what the agencies see as extensive education efforts, supplanted by those from private industry groups like the Consumer Electronics Association and the National Association of Broadcasters.

The NAB, for example, started its educational campaign in November 2006, according to Shermaze Ingram of the organization.

Misconceptions continue
Still, as late as October, 41 percent of Americans “believed every single TV needs to be a digital TV in order to get a signal,” said Kelsey, citing a Consumers Union poll.

“About 25 percent believe that every television, whether it’s digital or not, whether it’s hooked up to cable or not, has to have a converter box. And 21 percent believe everyone needs to sign up for cable or satellite service in order to keep a picture on their television sets. Consumers remain extremely confused.”

TVs do not have to be digital, but they do need to be able receive digital broadcasts. The main ways to do that are by buying a converter box to take a TV’s signal from analog to digital, and using an antenna as well; subscribing to a cable or satellite service; or buying a digital TV.

The Nielsen Co. said recently that while 85 percent of households are ready for the digital transition, nearly 6 percent are not at all, and another 9 percent are “partially ready.”

“Partially ready” means “you may have four TV sets in the house, and three are connected to cable and one is an analog set that isn’t,” said Anne Elliot of the Nielsen Co. “It means at least one working TV set in the household would not be able to get a digital signal.” That set could be one that is “used in the kids’ bedroom to watch DVDs,” for example, she said.

Some have moved to new TVs
A year ago, the digital transition was reason enough for many to justify signing up for cable or satellite service or to buy a new TV. At the end of 2007, more than 50 percent of American households owned a digital television, according to the Consumer Electronics Association.

In February 2008, the NTIA started making available two $40 coupons per household to help offset the cost of two converter boxes, which range from $50 to $80 each.

The coupons are only good for 90 days, and that, too, became part of the problem early on. If consumers were requesting the coupons, many weren’t redeeming them. By mid-April, for example, nearly 11 million coupons had been requested, with more than 500,000 of them redeemed, said Todd Sedmak, NTIA communications director.

In the first half of last year, there were limited choices of converter boxes on the market. And some consumers may have set aside the coupons and forgotten about them.

Coupon problems
During the summer, when more converter boxes went on store shelves, efforts to extend the 90-day expiration date were rejected by Congress.

At the end of the year, the NTIA said the $1.34 billion funding ceiling for the coupon program was about to be reached. As of last week, more than 47 million coupons had been mailed out since the program began.

More than 21 million of the coupons have been redeemed, while more than 14 million of them expired. Meanwhile, more than 3 million people are on a waiting list for the coupons.

The way in which the coupons are redeemed has also been an issue. Brick-and-mortar retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Radio Shack require in-store redemption, while some of the better converter box deals — including those for the cost of a coupon — can be found online.

“We think retailers need to have cheaper options available, and not just boxes for between $50 to $80,” said Kelsey. “With a $40 coupon, that’s still a relatively significant cost for someone who once got something — television transmission — for free.”

And like many things technological, setting up the boxes has not been a snap for everyone.

“It’s about as easy to setup a converter box as it is to set up a VCR,” said Kelsey. “That said, it’s not easy for everyone. So if you’re not used to this, or you’re not technically inclined, a lot of folks are wondering what to do and how to hook it up.”

Once the boxes are connected, getting a signal can still be a problem and an antenna may be needed. There’s no subsidy program for antennae, and some can be expensive.

More time for preparation
Chris Traver of Gresham, Ore., who had an analog set, decided to forego the converter box option and to buy a new TV earlier this year. Philosophically, he’s opposed to the converter box subsidies.

“We don't need the financial assistance and I do not support the government-sponsored program,” he said. “I do not believe it is the government’s responsibility to help pay for my choice in using television-based entertainment through the coupon program.”

A four-month delay to digital TV may not solve everyone’s problems, but will at least offer time to provide more consumer education and a chance to get more funding for coupons, says Kelsey.

That’s especially important for those most at “risk,” such as the poor, disabled and elderly, said Mark Lloyd, an attorney and vice president of the national Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

“The focus now really should not be on blame, but how we can make sure that Americans get the equipment they need and the assistance they need to be able to move forward,” he said.

He Man is back... Again.

Hey kids, remember He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? In 2002 Mattel was hoping you did and relaunched the series with cool sculpts by the legendary Four Horsemen. While the fans seemed to like it, the kiddies did not, so Mattel is trying it again with online exclusive figures.
So far the line consists of He-Man, Skeletor, and Beast Man, with Stratos, who will be available February 15th, and Mer-Man a month after that. Oh, I can't forget Faker (I loved that guy!), who will first be available at the New York Comic Con.
Like the last line, these guys are sculpted by the Four Horsemen, but this time around they look very much like their original counterparts but with added poseability. They retain the same muscle-bound, hulking feel of the originals but it looks like they now bend at the knees, ankles, wrists, and the shoulders appear to be ball-jointed. Mer-Man comes with 2 interchangable heads -the original and package art look! Another nice update, the figures can now store their swords on their backs when they don't feel like holding them.
According to Mattel, this line will include "the entire pantheon of MOTU characters." This includes She-Ra, The New Adventures of He-Man (remember that mess?), and unproduced characters from the mini-comics.
So, are they a hit this time around? Well, He-Man, Skeletor, and Beast Man are already sold out. Skeletor is going for $51 bucks on eBay with 2 hours left, and there is a He-Man that's been bid on up to $66!
So, if you're intrested, I suggest you check out Mattycollector.com and get em' while the gettin's good. Oh, and you have to be 18 to purchase, guess Mattel has given up on the youth market.

New Movie Trailers from the Super Bowl spots.

"Watching The Watchmen" -Buy this book NOW!

The back cover of this book claims- "It is the essential companion to the original graphic novel." I can't imagine any book that could do a better job. Written by Dave Gibbons, who, if you were not aware, co-created the Watchmen, as well as provided it's amazing artwork. Gibbons also did the art for Frank Miller's "Give Me Liberty" and Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke", finally showing us the Joker's heart-breaking origin.
"Watching the Watchmen" pummels you with original artwork, thumbnail sketches, and discarded concepts. Did you know Rorschach originally had a full body ink blot suit? Wasn't pretty. Or that Ozymandias' look was inspired by Julio Iglesias? Get this- The Comedian's face was modeled after Groucho Marx!
Seriously, it seems Dave Gibbons throws nothing away, and if it has to do with The Watchmen, he packed it into this book. Even the few pieces of "Watchmenabilia" that were produced are here. They made a downright adorable set of Watchmen lead figures back in the day to accompany a role-playing game, I think when I'm done with this, I'm gonna go looking for it on ebay!
One thing you won't find in this book is any of the scandal or legal battles that came along with The Watchmen. Gibbons said he wanted this book to be "a celebration of an artistic undertaking", so if you're looking for Alan Moore tirades, look elsewhere.
This book is huge, and you will spend a lot of time pouring over the sketches and storyboards, it retails for $39.95, and I have to say it's worth it. Most agree The Watchmen is the greatest graphic Novel of all time, and if you loved it like so many do, you need this book. Hurm.

DVD releases for Feb 3rd.

Transformers 2 teased at Super Bowl XLIII

Can't wait for a taste of the new Transformers sequel Revenge of the Fallen? So far all we've gotten is a vague poster, now we finally get a couple of vague teasers. Yes! Here's what Michael Bay had to say on online blog:

So,

The Super Bowl spot is coming Sunday in the third Quarter (few minutes into the quarter slot). The spot will be online a few minutes after that - The full length teaser trailer will only be on Friday the Thirteenth. It will not hit the internet until a week later. The Teaser really only teases stuff - I'm holding so much stuff back from the final trailers because I personally hate going to movies where you have seen it all.

Tell me what you think,

Michael

There you guys. There's your 'in' to get your Transformer fan-girl to go see the new Friday the 13th film, even though they "hate scary movies".

OPTIMOUSE PRIME (get it?)

Mickey Mouse and Optimus Prime -together? This little baby is like a Reese's Cup: Two great tastes that taste great together! Recently on display at the Tokyo Toy Forum, this sucker is scheduled to be released around the end of February and should run just under $40. The robot actually transforms into a vehicle which fits the little Mickey behind the wheel of the rig. Don't expect these to be around long, and I wouldn't count on them being sold outside of Japan, but you never know...

Oh yeah, did I mention that Batman is dead?

DC comics had teased the fact that Batman would be taking the dirt nap for quite some time in a storyline that would be called 'Batman: R.I.P.' Makes sense, right? So, people went out and bought the issues to this historical storyline that went through all of the Bat-titles, meaning you couldn't just buy Batman, you had to buy Robin, Nightwing, Detective Comics (you get the idea), if you wanted the full story. DC head honcho Dan DiDio claimed that the story would change Batman's world forever, but after some amazingly wild twists (a little too wild and chaotic) everything pretty much went back to status quo -including the fact the Batman was still alive at the end of 'Batman: R.I.P.'? Okay, so what gives? So people invested their time and money into multiple issues of a story about Batman dying where Batman doesn't die only to -get this- have Batman die that same month in a completely different title that really has nothing to do with the R.I.P. story at all! The deathblow actually takes place in Final Crisis #6, the most convaluted and ridiculously written story in years. Nobody even cares! The second oldest superhero in history and they force a non-dramatic death in a lame meaningless story. Captain America died last year and made headlines in papers across the country. The issue in which he dies sold out in minutes and spent a couple of weeks going for $200+ a copy. I picked up Final Crisis #6 the day after it came out, off a stack of many more copies, just to see how it happened. No fuss. No fanfare. No real story. People are already expecting him back soon. It's just hype. DC Comics has become all flash and no substance. This was just an excuse to sell more comics with their "Battle for the Cowl" storyline where people are now going to battle for the right to wear the Bat-tights, which is basically just a rehash of the Reign of the Supermen storyline from the 90's and even that ended with Superman stepping back in. Don't worry Bat-fans. Batman is about as gone as Colin Farrell's sex drive.

Mighty Muggs shelf

Not sure how to store your growing Mighty Muggs collection? Maybe you're just not looking hard enough. Or maybe you just weren't quick enough. Take a look at this little number:
A gentleman from Roanoke, VA recently took advantage of the Steve & Barry's clothing stores going out of business and liquidating their fixtures by getting an amazing deal on what would appear to be the perfect storage unit for any Mighty Muggs collection. This fixture went for $20 and each of the 30 cubbies are 6 Muggs deep, which means that you can store 180 Mighty Muggs displaying your favorite 30 out front. Awesome. I think it's time to take up carpentry.

Romero is back with "Diary of the Dead"

In 1968 George A. Romero scared the crap out of the world with "Night of the Living Dead". He followed that up 11 years later with "Dawn of the Dead", and in 1985 gave us "Day of the Dead", (which was my personal favorite, though many would disagree). Most 'Dead' fans thought that was it for Romero and his 'Dead' films, but in 2005 we were given "Land of the Dead". Since we had to wait 20 years between installments I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that "Land" was going to be the last hoorah.
Imagine the shock and awe of horror fans everywhere when we were treated to Romero's "Diary of the Dead" just 2 years later!
"Diary of the Dead" was the first thing I bought with my Christmas loot, and I usually don't buy a DVD without seeing it, but for this I made an exception.
It should always be remembered that George Romero created this sub-genre. The whole zombies taking over the world and society thrown into chaos, even the idea of zombies craving human flesh, it all comes from Romero's 'Dead' films.
The "Resident Evil" Video games and films like "28 Days Later" and "Shaun of the Dead" were all inspired by the original "Night of the Living Dead".
The first preview for "Diary" didn't look so good to me, and a friend told me to bother, so my expectations were low, but I have to say I enjoyed it and was glad I made the purchase.
First off, you should know this film is shot first person documentary style like "Cloverfield" or the "Blair Witch Project", this may cause some to groan, but the camera is held with a steady hand, and it won't make you dizzy. Also, yeah, Romero scores no points for originality using this kinda played out gimmick, but it does make for some truly creepy moments. There is an opening scene of a news crew on the scene of a triple homicide, bodies are being loaded into the back of ambulances, one starts twitching, it doesn't end well.
The story centers around some young film students who happen to be making a movie out in the woods when the dead start to rise. The director of this student film decides to keep his camera rolling and document the ensuing chaos. You pretty much have to suspend disbelief, and not ask why the heck you would walk around trying to film while zombies are taking over the world. I mean if your girlfriend is being attacked by her undead younger brother, wouldn't ya put down the camera for a sec and help out? As long as you can get over that, "Diary" is pretty entertaining.
There are also lots of voice over cameos from heavyweights like Wes Craven, Stephen King, and Quentin Tarantino. You really have to listen for them, but they're there! Stephen King is great as a wacked out screaming preacher.
The special effects are also pretty good considering the low budget. It's almost all CG, but it works well. If I was going to grade this I'd give it a B, not great but darn good and worth a look. Also, Dead fans can rejoice because Romero's next project is entitled "Island of the Dead"! The King is back!

OKTAPODI

Oktapodi is one of five films nominated for Best Animated Short Film at this year's Academy Awards. It's actually a graduation film by six students who attended Gobelins in France, and now it's up for an Oscar. Who'd a thunk? I guess it shows that you don't need a big budget or big names to make a big impact.

Gi. Joe 25th Anniversary line continues to impress!

In 2007 Hasbro celebrated G.I. Joe's 25th anniversary by completely revamping the original figures with amazing results.
Hasbro had been trying over the years to resurrect the 3 3/4 size Joes and Cobras with not so successful results. Lines like "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra", "Spy Troops", and "Valor vs. Venom" scored points for originality, but never quite seemed to hit the mark.
Hasbro finally figured it out, instead of trying to update the characters, just release them in all their retro, cheesey, 80's glory. Instead of putting Shipreck, everyones favorite sailor, in a modern, pratical, outfit, give him his original duds, (which makes him look like a member of the Village People), and don't forget his pet parrot! Because who wouldn't want to charge into battle with a squaking, light green bird attatched to them?
While the characters are wearing their original outfits, the figures are all new sculpts with mind-blowing articulation. These new guys have swivle wrists, jointed ankles, and ball jointed necks, so they can look in any darn direction you want! Gone are the "o rings", those black rubberbands that could snap in the event of , well , twisting your figures around at the waist too much. Now the figures are simply jointed at the torso, allowing for even more poses, and no more broken crotches! There isn't a male aged 25 to 35 who doesn't know the heartbreak of a broken crotch. You could try gluing it, but it just wasn't the same. Same goes for broken thumbs, which would result from trying to force a weapon into a figure's hand, well that also, is now a thing of the past, the new figures are made of a softer plastic that bends instead of breaks.
The original Joes and Cobras had guns and knives sculpted right to their bodies, so you couldn't remove them, now they're all removeable! You can take Snake-Eyes pistol out of his holster and stick Zartan's dagger securely into his boot!
Could it get any better? Yes. Hasbro just added Specialist Matt Trakker to G.I. Joe's ranks. Sound familiar? He's a character from another 80's toy line, M.A.S.K.! Seriously, how cool is that!?
There are a truckloads of more G.I. Joe and Cobra goodness on tap for 2009, Target will have exclusive Tiger Force and Python Patrol jets, Toys R Us is going to have a Viper Five pack, and Hasbro is gearing up for a line of figures from the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, so if you like G.I. Joe, go to your local retail store and check these out!

Star Wars retold

Here is a clip of a girl doing her best to give a recap of the original Star Wars trilogy. I'm not sure what movies she was watching, but at least she got a lot of the names right and that's more than I can say for some people.

WB and Fox shake hands and make nice

[From the Hollywood Reporter]
Warner Bros. and Fox have resolved their dispute over Watchmen, with the studios scheduled to present the settlement to Judge Gary Feess on Friday morning and request that the case be dismissed, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed, but it is said to involve a sizable cash payment to Fox and a percentage of the film's box office. Fox will not be a co-distributor on the film, nor will it own a piece of the Watchmen property going forward. The studios are set to release a joint statement announcing the agreement Friday.
Fox sued Warners in February of 2008, claiming copyright infringement based on agreements the studio had with producer Larry Gordon. Feess ruled on Dec. 24 that Gordon did not secure the proper rights to Watchmen from Fox before shopping the project and eventually setting it up with Warners. Feess' decision prompted settlement talks to heat up because Warners faced the prospect of an injunction stopping its March 6 release of the $130 million comic book adaptation.
While Gordon is not a party to the case, Warners is said to be pursuing the producer and his attorneys to reimburse it for the costs of the settlement.

UPDATE: Here is the official statement from both studios...
Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theatres.

Durex Commercial

I could describe this video to you, but I think it's just better if you see it for yourself. I will say that this is not for the easily offended and I would make sure that your little kid isn't watching over your shoulder or they may have a question or two. Then again, there's no time like the present to have a talk with your kids, and look...visual aids!

Watchmen hearing is dismissed -Good news?

[From the Hollywood Reporter]

A scheduled Tuesday court conference between Fox and Warner Bros. attorneys has been cancelled, fueling talk that a settlement in the contentious Watchmen case is imminent.

Fox sued Warners last February, saying the studio infringed on its rights to make the comic book adaptation. In December, when federal judge Gary A. Feess ruled that Fox has distribution rights to the film, Warners faced the prospect of having the film's March 6 release blocked.

Settlement talks between the two sides became serious over the weekend and continued to heat up yesterday.

A settlement could cost Warners tens of millions of dollars as Fox is reportedly asking for upfront fees as well as a percentage of the back-end.

MATRIX PONG

I really wanted to put a new video up today, so I went back to an old favorite that I'm sure many of you haven't seen. When I first saw this 4 years ago it blew my mindgrapes. Here it is -Matrix Pong:
