The Avengers Trailer is Here!

Holy Godzilla in a pink tutu! The Avengers trailer is finally online and it...is...nerdgasmic! It has everything. Cap and Tony bump heads; Cap and Thor bump weapons; Loki shows his hand and, yes, Hulk shows his face. What?! That's right, baby. We finally get a shot of the 3rd Hulk in the last decade. I'm much happier with his look than I thought I would be, as long as Ruffalo can pull off the Banner role we have winner. The trailer doesn't contain a lot of CGI driven scenes since that's where the remainder of post-production probably lies, but it does have a lot of familiar faces in slick costumes and that's good enough for now. The Avengers explodes into theaters May 4, 2012.

He's fluent in over 6 million forms of communication, they can't all be pretty. Sure, George Lucas made plenty of unnecessary changes to the current release of Star Wars on Blu-Ray, but none of them are as entertaining as "Street-Talking C-3PO", now with pimphand action. I've often contemplated overdubbing Jar Jar Bink's dialogue in The Phantom Menace to make him a little more street, but in retrospect who's a better fit for such a treatment than the man who's nothing but bling from head to toe?

Is Arkham City here yet?!

There's no question that the successor to one of the most amazing video games of all time (that's right, I said it) has garnered an anticipation likened to the second coming, but that hasn't stopped clips like this one from being released online to continue to whet our already substantially whetted proverbial whistle. I mean, seriously? Could this game look any sweeter? I'm thinking that game developers Rocksteady may want to contemplate throwing their gauntlet down in the animated film world and showing them how to do realism because I see no "Uncanny Valley" when I look in the weathered face of Arkham City's Batman . Throw Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in the mix for a Batman: Arkham movie and you're sure to fill the seats. You know, think about it. Until then, we'll just have to be happy with the stunning visuals in Batman: Arkham City, coming to retailers October 18, 2011 here in the U.S. (followed closely by Australia on the 19th and the rest of the world on the 21st).
REMINDER: That's just 2 days after my birthday for those of you looking for gift ideas. I don't mind if it's a couple of days late. Really. I'm just saying...

The Final Peanuts Cartoon

Given the major contrasts between the children and adults that have remained consistent over the last almost 65 years that the Peanuts gang has existed, it seems that there is only one foreseeable way for childhood to end for a boy named Charlie Brown. Sure the road to adulthood is always frought with awkwardness and biological pitfalls, but You're Entering Puberty Charlie Brown let's us know that it could be so much worse. Fans of Futurama will also notice a nod to one of the most heart-wrenching episodes of that entire series. I won't point it out to avoid giving anything away, but if you do know the show then you probably already know what I'm talking about before you even see it.

Batman Meets the Riddler

Batman: Year One to include Catwoman Short

DC may not have much over Marvel in the cinematic forum, but they have been churning out superior animated films for quite a while now (maybe they should let Bruce Timm handle their live action properties from now on). Next on the direct-to-DVD animated slate is Batman: Year One, based on the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name (originally appearing in Batman #404-407 back in 1987). Do we really need another origin story about Bruce Wayne's rise to hero? Probably not, but if you're going tell it again this is the way to do it. Year One to this day is still considered one of the greatest graphic novels of all time and the most faithful adaptation of who Batman truly is, period. Will this interpret well into an animated film? We'll just have to wait until October 18, 2011 to find out.
Also included in this release is the traditional pre-feature short this time starring Batman foe and occasional love interest Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman, slinking around in her black leather get-up and getting into some kind of mischief. Whether she's a good guy or a bad guy in this particular short is still up in the air, but that's the beauty of the character.

Well, happy birthday to me! The Walking Dead finally shuffles it's way back to AMC with it's second season premiere on October 16 and it looks fantastic! Sure, AMC has given us plenty of reasons to worry about the quality of the upcoming season with the departure of the great Frank Darabont and a huge budget slash, but if this trailer is any indication we might just be OK.

A couple of years ago I posted Comic-Con footage of the highly anticipated and mysteriously befuddling Goon movie supposedly being produced by the magnificent David Fincher, well it turns out that Goon creator Eric Powell was recently given the green light to post this additional test footage for the film on his Twitter account. I say "befuddling" because at this point these are the only two pieces of...ANYTHING to be seen for this movie, at all. Truth be told there is actually no proof that anything else even exists. It could just be some elaborate plan by Powell and Fincher to build up enough hype to get some studio to back them. If that's the case I'm all for it; if not then show us SOMETHING for crying out loud!

Street Fighter X Tekken: Origins Story Trailer

Street Fighter X Tekken, the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of fighting games is still happening and is still in full production just in case anyone had given up hope. But now it just went from an awesome idea to "Holy Heihachi!" with the introduction of newer multi-player fighting and a little something called "Pandora" which sacrifices the life of your fighting partner to give you a power boost. How messed up is that? So messed up that it just...might...work. There hasn't been much on the counterpart game Tekken X Street Fighter (created to emulate Tekken gameplay), but that's mainly because Tekken creator Harada has already announced that the second will not be released until AFTER the Capcom version is already out there so they're holding off a little on promotion.

Some Captain America fan is gonna have a lousy Christmas!

It's bound to happen. Some poor shlub is going to ask for the Captain America movie for Christmas and some unwitting mother is going to proudly find the DVD with not just one Captain America film, but two; that has to be twice as good, right? Well, merry Christmas, Junior! You just got hosed. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people out there who would love to own this extra cheesy 1979 double-feature simply because they are hardcore Captain America fans or for reasons of nostalgia (of course, not a lot of young kids out feeling nostalgic for late 70s TV movies); either way there is a natural order to things. MOMS, if you're child asks for Captain America for the holidays, please assume that he means Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans (write that down: "Chris...Evans") coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 25, 2011 and not, in fact, some amazing two for one deal. More is not always better. Now, if you would like to get this little gem as a nice compliment to the already purchased Evans movie for your Cap fan, that would be just fine and dandy. Just remember that Shout Factory has put this out on October 18, one week prior to the new movie, just to cash in on unsuspecting consumers such as yourself having a week to think that this is the only Cap movie out there. It's not. You've been warned.

The Dwarves of The Hobbit

So here we are. The first complete photo of the band of dwarves to accompany Bilbo on his quest in the upcoming Peter Jackson prologue to the LOTR trilogy. I mean The Hobbit, if you hadn't figured that out yet. So far, these are the only characters revealed, but hopefully more will soon follow. Peter Facinelli and Nikki Reed have taken time out of their busy Twilight schedules to prove that they can still make things that don't make me want to scratch my retinas out and stuff them in ears. Good for them. Plus, who doesn't love the Wonder Twins?

For those of you who thought that George Lucas would be able to let one Star Wars release pass by without putting his pudgy little hands all over it, think again, young Padawan. One of the greatest series of all time is still not good enough for ol' Georgie. Sure, there will be subtle little foley and SFX changes that will probably go all but unnoticed, but most will be hardpressed not to notice things like:
-A new CGI Yoda, instead of the current puppet in The Phantom Menace for better trilogy continuity. Pretty soon Lucas is just going replace all of the main characters with CGI.
- Obi-Wan apparently stubs his toe or something while trying to scare off the Sandpeople from around Luke's landspeeder. Well, at least that's what it sounds like.
- The entrance to Jabba's palace is now large enough to drive Delaware through it.
- Wicket, and I would supposed the rest of the Ewoks, now have CGI blinking eyes going on, which really just looks more weird than them NOT blinking at all, at least in Wicket's case.
- Oh, and let's not forget the coup de grace which will forever be known as "Vader says, 'NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!'" featuring Vader voicing his disapproval of Emperor Palpatine delivering the fatal blows to poor old Luke in ROTJ. Sure, there's the nausea-inducing one at the end of Episode III, but those movies are so full of suck that it's just another coal on the fire.

I would be willing to give him a pass on most of these changes if he would just be willing to put Sebastian Shaw back where he belongs at the end of Jedi. Seeing the talentless Christensen just destroys the last moments of a beautiful saga. Didn't I put up with him enough in the prequels?!

"The Skin I'm In" by Roosevelt Franklin

If you don't know who beloved Sesame Street character Roosevelt Franklin is, don't be ashamed. The odds are this character was forgotten by more people than Mr. Hooper. Roosevelt was the ringleader for the Muppet classroom of children, a friend to Gordon, and a favorite of mine because his questions always seemed smarter than some of the other "kids" and I just felt like I could relate better to him and his demeanor. Franklin was actually created and voiced by the original Gordon, Matt Robinson who only remained on the show from '69 to '71. The character itself continued to have original content until about 1975 and luckily for us was recycled in clips through the early 80s until he was dropped altogether (due to controversies over him being an instigator as well as both coming across as "too black" and "not black enough", unbelievably enough).

In 1971 the CTW released a Roosevelt Franklin album entitled "The Year of Roosevelt Franklin" (which was reissued in 1974 as "My Name is Roosevelt Franklin"). The following track, "The Skin I'm In", relays Roosevelt's awareness of him being different than some other people and the pride he takes in his own individuality. The album also features another favorite of mine "Roosevelt Franklin's Alphabet" in which he sings his own flavorful alphabet song at the bequest of his mother.

Roosevelt Franklin was later parodied on the TV series Arrested Development when Will Arnett's character, Gob, began working with a foul-mouthed, racist puppet named Franklin Delano Bluth, an obvious variation of the name based on FDR.

On a related note, it may interest some to know that Roosevelt Franklin was not Matt Robinson's only notable creation. He also had a hand in the conception of his daughter, one Mrs. Holly Robinson (Peete).

Tweety Pie

For fans of animation history this is the rarely seen ORIGINAL title sequence to the first ever Tweety and Sylvester cartoon, entitled Tweety Pie. Until now most people probably have never seen this particular footage due to Warner Bros. reissuing all of their shorts as Blue Ribbon Merrie Melodies beginning in 1943 and replacing the title cards with what most of us are used to now. In fact, the studios sadly no longer have the original uncut versions of most their shorts; including 1947's Tweety Pie, which was reissued in 1955 in color for the Blue Ribbon series. Tweety Pie went on to win WB their first Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoons).

Is "Ultimate Spider-Man" really Donald Glover?

Well, probably not...and yet very likely. I'm confused. Everyone knows about Donald's campaign last year to be the new web-slinger in the reboot and the amount of popularity it achieved. He even wore Spider-Man PJs in an episode of Community as a nod to just that. Well, according to Glover that gesture was the inspiration for the new Ultimate Spider-Man since the demise of Peter Parker (Ultimate Peter Parker, not 616 Peter Parker). Perhaps this is just Bendis' way of opening the door for Glover to star in an Ultimate Spider-Man movie of his own. Props for both men making the seemingly implausible one step closer to possible.

The film centers around a group of teenagers trying to exact revenge on the homicidal butchers who took their friend and have been taking more of them out one by one. The only problem? The Amazing Spider-Man Teaser

So, here it is, folks; the first look at 2012's Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. For those of you who are confused as to why there is a Spider-Man movie coming out that looks nothing like the other three we've watched over the last 10 years, it's because if Sony doesn't continue to release Spider-Man movies then all rights revert back to Marvel Studios (which would be a good thing). But since Spider-Man 3 took McGuire's character to a place where it would be hard to bounce back from, the studio trashed SM4 and opted for a reboot. Now that Marvel is making it's own movies expect other studios that have the rights to characters to start churning out more movies. Daredevil? Reboot. Fantastic Four? Reboot. Ghost Rider? Well, sequel, but I would prefer a reboot instead of Nicholas Cage and his amazing hairpiece. X-Men? I guess "Preboot" is the best term for that one, but very well done.

Anyway, take a look at what appears to be a much darker and brooding looking Spider-Man film; but at least Dr. Conners finally gets to be the Lizard, instead of going through a movie trilogy as a one-armed college professor with no real payoff (Dylan Baker's Lizard was planned to finally appear in the fourth film along with John Malkovich rumoured to be the Vulture).

THE DKR TEASER (AGAIN)

In the last 24 hours the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has been a leak that has been plugged a hundred times over by the legal boys over at Warner Bros.; but thanks to the lack of legal restrictions overseas there may actually be a copy of the teaser that might actually stick (at least long enough for it to officially release next week). [SPOILER] For those of you over-anticipating the clip, I'll tell you now that it's quite a bit of previous footage and a very quick shot of Bane at the end. The only significant piece of footage is really Commissioner Gordon's plea to Bruce Wayne. Anyway, enjoy.

So, every year the 48 Hours film festival takes place in Australia, which challenges zealous filmmakers to create a short film in (you guessed it) 48 hours. On Friday each team is randomly given a genre, a random prop, a character, and a line of dialogue that they must use in their film. But, still, 48 hours seems like a fair enough to throw SOMETHING decent together. Now try doing that...as an animator! That's exactly what the good fellows over at Mukpuddy Animation have done. Running on no sleep for around 60 hours the trio worked tirelessly to complete their task. The end product is an impressive 6 minute short called Meanie Pants that wins not only Best Animated Film, but 3rd place in the overall competition of over 3,200 films. For those of you who don't realize it, making a rudimentary 3 minute animated film in two days is a daunting task in itself, but to make a fully finished, quality 6 minute one is unimaginable; and to make one good enough to take third place in this competition is a near impossibility. Even more impressive is that this is not the team's first notable showing in the event, as they also reached the national finals back in 2007 with a short entitled Camp Fear. Camp Fear was much shorter and simpler than Meanie Pants, but still earned the merit of being the first animated short to ever reach the finals. Well done, gents.

Let's face it. Clone High is never coming back. It was a great show when it aired and is still enjoyable in DVD form, but thanks to Maxim magazine and the country of India it's has little to no chance of ever returning from it's now nine year hiatus. Sure, that sucks, but thanks to animator Todd Kauffman (creator of Total Drama Island) all of that magic just might be reincarnated into a little project entitled MonstoCity High. Now, it's not the same characters or the same setting, but it's about as close to the same humor and sensibilities as we're ever going to get. Instead of clones of historical figures being forced to withstand the pitfalls of high school life it's monsters dealing with many of the same obstacles. The premise is simple: The "normal" high school and the monster high school have been consolidated into a single building and not everyone is happy about it. Crush is your everyday nice guy with a heart...borrowed from someone else and his best friend Harry is essentially man's best friend. These would be your Abe and Gandhi characters, respectively. Kauffman has been trying for a few years to complete this project independently, but he can use all the help he can get with anything from donations to animating, so if your interested in helping out or just want to check out more on the show visit the MonstroCity High website for more information.

First full 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' trailer

So, we finally have a full trailer for the new Rise of the Planet of the Apes film and I have to say I'm still on the fence about this. I understand enough about film making to know that the CGI is still going to be unfinished at this point, so I won't judge it based on that; but it seems like the story is basically re-tooling the fourth movie in the original series (Conquest...) to work as if the first three had never happened, but THE FIRST THREE ARE THE BEST!!! Plus, I've always loved the Roswell That Ends Well aspect of the original run; cause and effect and all that (true geeks, you know what I'm talking about). So, my next question is (and stay with me here) are they starting over or is this meant to be the primary story before time travel caused a space/time continuum flux resulting in an alternate time loop where Zira and Cornelius interrupt the original events by appearing before they are set in motion, but ultimately resulting in the same outcome through varied causalities? I think we need a chart...

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

The original Tekken Tag Tournament hit arcades in July of 1999 and 12 years later is still considered one of the best fighting games to ever hit home consoles. It is also the reason I became a huge Tekken fan for so long, so to say that I'm excited about the news of this 2012 release is easily an understatement. Still a favorite among Tekken fans, Namco has never released a sequel until now and to be honest hasn't really had to. The original TTT still holds up today, boasting one of the largest roster of characters in the game's entire run (minus the mediocre Tekken 6). That doesn't mean that I'm not all about this new release, but it does mean that I have come to expect more from my Tekken Tag Tournament than I do in the standard Tekken series of games. Do you hear that Namco? Tekken Bowl or NO DEAL!

Here is the first look at Caesar from the upcoming re-imagining of (technically) Conquest of the Planet of the Apes entitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The movie, starring James Franco and featuring Andy Serkis, gives a new spin to the POTA origin. Being a huge fan of the original series, I'm still a little put-off by this new story, especially after dealing with Burton's discombobulation. Well, I guess we'll see when the movie makes it way to theaters on August 5, 2011.

Here comes Paul; Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's latest buddy comedy. If you liked Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz (and, honestly, who didn't?) then you should be right on board for their latest film where they play two British fanboys (huge stretch) setting out across Roswell, New Mexico following the SDCC. Along the way they encounter Paul, a foul-mouthed little alien voiced by funnyman du jour Seth Rogan who's simply trying to find his way back home. If you ever wondered what the film E.T. would have been like if E.T. was replaced by Roger, the alien from American Dad, this is probably what you would get. Throw in the talents of Kristen Wigg, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Hader, and so many others and you've got the makings of a pretty fun looking movie. Paul opens everywhere March 18.

Dwayne McDuffie R.I.P.

Sad news in the comics world today, writer and producer (and fellow Michigander)Dwayne McDuffie passed away yesterday in Burbank, CA from complications during emergency heart surgery. Best known for co-creating Milestone
Comics in the early '90s (which spawned teenage hero Static Shock), McDuffie went on to write and produce the popular Justice League Unlimited animated series as well as the the JLA comic, including a storyline which brought his Milestone characters into the DCU.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr. McDuffie a few times down at the House of Secrets comic shop in Burbank and he was just a genuinely nice guy. McDuffie is survived by his wife, Fox Kids television writer Charlotte Fullerton. His death comes one day after celebrating his birthday. He was 49.

Holy Moly! Have you seen the footage to the upcoming video game Dead Island? Though the trailer plays backwards (a hauntingly nice touch) it's pretty obvious that this family's island vacation has gone decidedly wrong. I don't think I've ever anticipated a zombie game as much this and I haven't even seen any real gameplay yet; I sure hope it doesn't disappoint.

DISNEY'S ORPHAN'S BENEFIT SIDE-BY-SIDE

Everybody has seen one version or the other of Disney's classic "Orphan's Benefit", some may have even seen both and just thought that their memory was screwy. The truth is both versions do, in fact, exist. The later is actually a shot for shot remake of the 1934 original in anticipation of Mickey's 12th anniversary, for which Disney had planned an elaborate interaction which would require a more up to date look to the film. Rarely done, this was only to be one of a handful of restored shorts to come out of the celebration, but in the end it just proved too time-consuming with so many new projects waiting for some attention and the idea was scrapped. Besides the obvious rarity of two such similar films existing simultaneously, "Orphan's Benefit" was significant for being the first "official" Donald Duck appearance (outside of the Silly Symphonies duck, which Donald is based on) as well as the first appearance of Clara Cluck; and though his name is never uttered in the film, it's the first time Goofy was referred to creatively by his current name instead of Dippy Dawg. Though uncannily similar, you may notice a few small changes outside of the aesthetic qualities of the film, least noticeable is probably the fact that the 1934 original is technically misspelled "Orphan's Benefit", but the 1941 remake was retitled "Orphans' Benefit" to make it more grammatically correct (though some of the promotional material for the newer version still contains the original title). I guess proofreading didn't exist until after we won the war.

The Solo Adventures was shown a few weeks ago at the Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Florida (I was there!), where it was an audience favorite and won a Best Animation prize. This 3D student film, written and directed by Daniel L. Smith and Jeffery Sheetz, was a class project by students at the DAVE School of Digital Arts and Visual Effects in Orlando.

HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN

For those of you who saw Grindhouse as a double-feature in the theaters you are more than familiar with the mock movie previews that accompanied the movies. The gag trailers were received so well by the public that rumors immediately arose that many of the bits were going forward to full production. Unless you lived in Canada, though, you probably missed out on Hobo With a Shotgun. Hobo was created by independent film maker Jason Eisener and won first place at the SXSW Film Festival for best trailer. After it's win, the faux trailer was added to prints of the Grindhouse film circulating through Canada (where Eisener is from). Now it seems the shotgun toting hobo is going legit, making it the third movie announced to be going solo on the big screen. more...

Robert Rodriguez's Machete was the first to actually see this come to fruition. Machete (opening this weekend) tells the story of an ex-Federale (Danny Trejo) who seeks vengeance on the man who set him up. Eli Roth announced that he is looking to bring his trailer Thanksgiving (a spoof on holiday slasher films like Halloween; Silent Night, Deadly Night; and Friday the 13th) to the big screen by 2011. Well, Hobo With a Shotgun is looking to squeek by Thanksgiving and become the second Grindhouse trailer to make it to theaters. Though both movies are rumored to have a 2011 release, Hobo is actually far enough along to have a trailer ready to show. No, not that trailer -a real trailer, starring the one and only Rutger Hauer as a boomstick brandishing force of smelly justice. Then again, Roth could probably bang out a movie like Thanksgiving in about three weeks (minus post-production), so you never know. Anyway, if you haven't seen it yet here is the original independent trailer for Hobo With a Shotgun, followed by the "new and improved" Hollywood version.

If you've seen the teaser trailer for the new Nickelodeon Movies film Rango then you've probably been scratching your head as much as I have. Of course, since it's debut a more information has been released about this peculiar animated feature starring Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, and Tim Olyphant. Depp stars as Rango, a domesticated chameleon that, through a series of unfortunate events, finds himself thrust into a life of responsibility as the hero for the downtrodden citizens of the lawless desert town of Dirt.
You may have noticed the not-so-subtle similarities between Rango's look and the distorted look of Johnny Depp on the movie poster for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (the thin crooked neck, replace the glasses with buggy eyeballs, and a red Hawaiian shirt). [more...]

In the film, Johnny Depp played Raoul Duke, based on Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. To make things even more surreal, if you pay attention to the trailer (at about 1:47) you'll notice that Rango splats against the windshield of a car which appears to be driven by, who else? Hunter S. Thompson in what could very well be his infamous Red Shark while wearing the exact same red shirt as Rango. Deserts, lizards, manic craziness. Just exactly how many similarities do these two films have? I'm really curious to find out, myself.

Transformers and GI Joe; two great tastes that taste great together. Well, toy customizer Dr. Vile took that idea and ran with it creating a Cobra/Decepticon hybrid codenamed Obliterator. Oh, and he also happens to be a combiner. Obliterator is a combination of two Hiss Tanks for legs, two ATVs for the arms, and a Stinger Jeep and movie Scorponok make up the torso. And, yes, each separate vehicle also transforms into its own robot, as well.

And with sites like chat roulette the deviants come out of the woodwork. Well, the PR department behind the upcoming film The Last Exorcism have found a way to use that to their advantage. With a built-in captive audience of young male voyeurs the film company has begun releasing what appear to be young ladies in various states of undress. Once they make sure that they've gotten the audience's attention...Actually, instead of telling you, why don't I just show you? Check out the reaction videos right here. DCU ONLINE GAMEPLAY TRAILER

I have to admit, after seeing the last video for the upcoming DC Universe Online MMORPG (being released on November 2, 2010) I admittedly became less interested in the game itself and more interested in seeing a full-length movie of what I had just sampled. Well, back to reality. This is the latest gameplay trailer showing a more realistic look at what can be expected in the actual game. You won't actually play as a regular DCU character; you have to create your own, but you do get to interact with most of them. Though DC Universe Online does appear to be a rather ambitious game and I'm sure I will, at one point, get around to playing it, I think I'll go back and watch the previous video for now. That looks like a lot more fun.

FINALLY! STAR WARS COMES TO BLU-RAY!

It continues to be the most anticipated film series release in every video format that hits the shelves and Blu-ray format is, by far, no exception. No, I'm not talking about the Police Academy movies, but I must say now I'm intrigued... I'm, of course, referring to the recent announcement at this years Star Wars Celebration V that "the holy trilogy" is finally going to see release on Blu-ray next year. As for the delay, Lucas had this to say, "I wish I could say it's coming out this year, but it's coming out next year. They'll be different kinds of additional material. I think you've seen enough behind the scenes material for a lifetime. There's some really good material that will be included in there, including more deleted scenes that you haven't seen yet." Among them is a long-lost deleted scene from Return of the Jedi.

The sequence depicts Luke Skywalker assembling his new, green-bladed lightsaber prior to infiltrating Jabba the Hutt's palace (since his previous one is still keeping his right hand company). After completing the Jedi weapon, Luke stashes it in R2-D2's dome which, well you know the rest. The scene was cut in post-production, so it contains completed visual effects and music. Mark Hamill describes Luke's original introduction in Jedi as ominous, with his face cowled in shadows and his intentions unclear."I had the black cloak, the glove, and I thought, wow, this time around I get to be the antagonist. Little did I know I was predicating the path of the prequels," noting the similarities to Luke in this scene and the prequel's Anakin Skywalker.

As for why this much-coveted release has taken so long to find its way to Blu-ray, Lucas said, "We've been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it. You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally. It's a very, very expensive process to do it."
The six movie set will be released in high-definition Blu-ray in Fall 2011. It's not known at this point whether the movies will only be available as a full set or if you can just buy the good trilogy by itself. Also no word on the inclusion of the non-special edition versions of the films. If we're going to finally get to see these movies in high-definition the last thing we want to have to see in crystal-clear clarity is freakin' Greedo shooting first. I mean, come on!

SUPERMAN/BATMAN APOCALYPSE

Here is the opening clip to the upcoming DC animated DVD Superman/Batman: Apocalypse set for release September 28, 2010. Giving that this story is a translation of the Jeph Loeb and (the late, great artist) Michael Turner's story arc Superman/Batman: Supergirl, one could assume that this should be a direct sequel to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, as it was in the comics. It turns out that the Kryptonite meteor that caused worldwide panic in Public Enemies was actually carrying a surprise payload: The ship of a young Kryptonian girl who goes by the name of Kara Zor-El. Kara's arrival puts a strain on the relationship between Superman and Batman when questions arise about the identity of this powerful new stranger. Is she really who she claims to be or are her intentions much more sinister? Oh, Batman! Always the worrier. The original version of this story is fantastic and if the creative team is able to capture the essence of that then we all in for a real treat with this one. Add to that the return of Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly as Batman and Superman, respectively and fanboy-fav Summer Glau stepping in to the Supergirl role, it's going to be hard for this movie to disappoint.

Thor and Cap footage on IM2 Blu-ray

If you didn't get a chance to see the seven minutes of amazing Thor preview footage before it was so swiftly pulled from the internet by Marvel Studio's lawyers, don't worry; rumor has it that the Comic Con footage for both Thor and Captain America will be included in the Blu-ray version of Iron Man 2 set for release on September 28, 2010. Both clips will apparently be well hidden in a unique "Shield Data Vault" area of the Blu-ray and will require a bit of Easter egg hunting to find. If you have yet to enter the world of Blu-ray, fret not, it won't take long for said clips to make their way to an internet near you.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS

Taking place one year after the events in Steve Niles breakout story 30 Days of Night comes the straight to DVD sequel 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. Stella Oleson has moved to Los Angeles after the horrible events in Barrow and has begun a relentless campaign to convince the world that vampires do, in fact, exist. Gaining the confidence of a small group of misfits, Stella and the group set their sights on destroying Lilith, the queen vampire responsible for so much of their troubles. For a straight to DVD release it looks pretty decent. The obvious absence of Melissa George reprising her role as Stella is a huge concession (George was looking forward to coming back, but prior commitments wouldn't allow it), but other than that I'm sure that fans of the first film are looking forward to picking up 30 Days of Night: Dark Days when it hits stores October 5, 2010. YOGI BEAR MOVIE

That's right, folks! Because NO ONE demanded it, here is a look at the CGI/live-action Yogi Bear movie announced a while back. From looking at the trailer this movie is everything that's wrong with the bevy of rehashed childhood properties that Hollywood continues to regurgitate to make an unoriginal buck. Forced pop culture references, juvenile jokes, and the ol' "Look how hip a character from way back when is trying to come off. How funny!" To make matters worse, instead of finding a talented voice actor to deliver a spot on Yogi they simply brought in Dan Aykroyd to give his closest approximation. Justin Timberlake seems pull off a fairly decent Boo Boo, but I don't think it will add enough to the movie to make this a hit. Tom Cavanagh will play the ever-frustrated Ranger Smith to round out the core cast with Anna Faris as a nature documentarian on the hunt for the mischievous bear. And of course, since this film is any random movie after 2009 it will be coming to theaters in underwhelming Real 3D. In case you still can't wait to catch what is bound to be movie of the year, Yogi Bear will invade theaters December 17, 2010. Enjoy.

Apparently, someone decided to leak the footage online for all to see, but catch it while you can because I can guarantee it won't be up for long. I'll tell you this much: I am a skeptic no more. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Disney XD's most ambitious undertaking since the House of Mouse's acquisition of Marvel Comics has got to be the upcoming Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon coming this fall. I will reserve judgment until I've seen the first three episodes, but this may be nothing more than a show pandering to children specifically to get them to beg an adult to take them to the Avengers movie when it finally hits theaters, instead of a decent show that is entertaining to children and adults alike as the Justice League series was; but I digress. Judgment is back to being reserved. Who knows, it could be kind of cool.

MACHETE RED BAND TRAILER

Who would have thought that a joke trailer in the Grindhouse double feature would amass such a following that it would be greenlit for a full-length feature? Even more impressive is Danny Trejo's supporting cast in his first big (and deserved) lead role: Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, and Lindsay Lohann (OK, maybe not that last one, so much). Machete will be slicing and dicing it's way into theaters on September 3, 2010.

CHLOE BECOMES OFFICIAL

After nine years as Clark Kent's best friend and confidant on CW's hit TV series Smallville, Chloe Sullivan has finally made it to the big leagues. Starting with issue #893 of Action Comics, the TV exclusive character of Chloe becomes official as she finally debuts in the DC universe in a secondary Jimmy Olsen story. She will be a reporter and she will have a history with Jimmy; past that we'll just have to wait and see. The announcement comes at a bittersweet time for fans of the nosy hacker girl, as it has also been announced over the weekend that Allison Mack will not be returning for the final season of the show. She may make a brief appearance to tie up her storyline, but that's about the extent of it. If you want to see Chloe after that, you're going to have to crack open a book. Action Comics #893 is scheduled for release on September 29, 2010, five days after the start of the tenth and final season of Smallville.

After watching this video for the upcoming MMORPG I only have five things to say:

1. DC Universe Online is scheduled for November 2, 2010 on PS3 and Windows.
2. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are back to voice Batman and the Joker, respectively.
3. The characters in this game are designed by the great Jim Lee.
4. Freakin' Ambush Bug is in this game! (and if you don't know who he is, shame on you!)
5. SCREW THIS GAME! GIVE ME THE MOVIE INSTEAD!!! Can you imagine?...

ZACK SNYDER'S SUCKER PUNCH

Dragons and Samurai and Robots, oh my! Even if you don't care for the storytelling in his previous films such as 300 or Watchmen, you have to give director Zack Snyder this: He knows how to make a film look amazing. Sucker Punch is an original story penned by Snyder and Steve Shibuya and features an ensemble female cast including Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone as a downtrodden pack of inmates looking to break free from an extremist asylum -babes and guns are a deadly combination. Snyder himself gives this synopsis for the film: "Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of Baby Doll (Browning), who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution in Brattleboro, Vermont and while there she starts to imagine an alternate reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is captured by an unknown adversary. She has 5 days to escape before being lobotomized. In order to cope with the situation, she enters the hyper-real world of her imagination, and the lines between reality and dream begin to blur. She is joined with friends who are inmates from the institution. Lessons learned in the said fantasy world could help the girls escape their real-world fate." Sucker Punch hits theaters and IMAX March 21st, 2011.

THE GOON PREVIEW TRAILER

For those of you who don't know, The Goon is a phenomenal comic book by writer and artist Eric Powell and published by Dark Horse Comics. Set in a world that combines the noir of a pulp detective adventure peppered with a number of creatures straight out of a B-movie grab bag, The Goon follows Goon (naturally) and his sidekick Franky as they protect the people around Lonely Street from zombies, vampires, hags, and anything else that wanders out of the bog. Produced by director David Fincher, The Goon's subtle blend of humor and macabre the makes it a perfect property for a big screen feature. The film will be animated in CGI featuring the voice talents of Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti portraying Goon and Franky, respectively. There is no set date for theatrical release, bit The Goon should make it's way to theaters by summer 2011.

BLUE BEETLE TEST FOOTAGE

A couple of months back, Geoff Johns and DC released a bit of test footage for a proposed Blue Beetle TV series. Well, in all the glory that is Comic Con, Johns felt it a perfect time to release a more extensive version of said footage to the nation of DC followers to see how they would react and help gauge the viability of a live-action series based on a relatively unknown character (outside of the comic book world). It's also noteworthy to mention that this clip was directed by Alex Winter, who was Bill of the "Bill and Ted's" films.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Blue Beetle has actually been around since 1939 (less than a year after Superman's debut). Originally appearing in Fox Comics as Dan Garrett, who had enhanced strength and a bulletproof costume, the character was later sold to Charlton Comics and his given strength was now derived from an ancient blue scarab found on an archeology expedition. In the 60s, the mantle was passed on to Ted Kord who took over for Garrett after his death. Ted Kord was an inventor, who relied solely on his gadgets as opposed to super strength. Soon after, Charlton Comics went out of business. The character wasn't heard from again until 1983 when DC Comics purchased Charlton's stable of characters to be used as the main players for the soon-to-be classic Watchmen graphic novel written by Alan Moore. Introducing the Beetle to the DCU in the 80s classic Crisis on Infinite Earths along with Peacemaker, Nightshade, The Question, and Captain Atom as inhabitants of Earth-4 (a parallel Earth consisting exclusively of Charlton Comics characters). In a strange twist, fans actually became enamored with these throwaway characters and DC forced Moore to create new characters to use in his Watchmen book, keeping the Charlton characters on full-time (Moore simply created clones of the original characters to avoid serious rewrites to his story; Blue Beetle would simply be changed to Nite Owl). Over the next twenty years, Blue Beetle had gained quite a following, having his own series as well as a place in the Justice League. In 2005 , Ted Kord met with a tragic end when he was executed with a single shot to the head by one of his oldest friends, Maxwell Lord. Soon after, teenager Jaime Reyes came across the blue scarab and it fused with his body, giving him an amazing new array of powers and making him the first Blue Beetle to use the scarab to it's full potential. This current Blue Beetle can be seen making frequent guest appearances on the Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series on Cartoon Network. This live-action version is more than likely DC's first attempt to find a replacement for Smallville, which will be entering into it's 10th and final season this September. Blue Beetle is still in early production stages and has yet to receive final approval.

THE WALKING DEAD COMIC CON PREVIEW

I have mixed feelings for this series for reasons I won't get into, but I have to say that this first real clip looks amazing! Based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman and brought to the AMC network by writer/director Frank Darabont, The Walking Dead follows officer Rick Grimes as he leads a small group of survivors in a world devastated by a zombie outbreak.

YOUNG JUSTICE

Here is a first look at Cartoon Network's upcoming Young Justice cartoon. In the comics, Young Justice was formed by Robin (Tim Drake), Superboy (Conner Kent), and Impulse (Bart Allen, later to be Kid Flash) so that the boys could spend time with others who understood what it meant to be a hero standing in the shadow of someone much bigger than themselves, much to the chagrin of Batman, Superman, and the Flash. Aided by the mentoring of Justice League veteran Red Tornado the boys set out to prove themselves worthy in their own right. As the series grew in popularity, so did their ranks to include teen heroes such as Wonder Girl, Arrowette (who appears to be replaced by Artemis in the cartoon), and the enigmatic Empress (who is questionably absent from the series). Young Justice was eventually absorbed into the more serious Teen Titans title and the series was canceled. It appears that this new show may be a composite of both titles taking place on what is designated Earth-16 in the DC Multiverse. Since this is the first look at the new series not much is known at this time, but it has been stated that the Justice League will be very present in the series. The footage is pretty impressive and I'm definitely looking forward to the series, but I can't help but notice the striking similarities between the look and feel of this the show and the recent DC animated movie Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Hmmm...

Some fighting games make money. Some fighting games don't. And some fighting games are bound to make more money than any one game should. Case in point, Namco and Capcom's joint effort Street Fighter x Tekken or Tekken x Street Fighter available next year on PS3 and Xbox 360. I use both titles not because i don't want to offend a fan of one over the other, but because apparently Capcom will make a Street Fighter x Tekken version that plays like a Street Fighter game and Namco will in turn release a Tekken x Street Fighter version that will, yes, play like a Tekken game. Everybody wins! The only way this game could be more freakin' anticipated is if they added the Mortal Kombat franchise to the mix.

Well, it's official. After months of speculation Joss Whedon has announced that Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will, in fact, be appearing in the upcoming Avengers movie as Marvel's resident archer extraordinaire, Hawkeye. I, for one, am pleased.

Brandishing a gun, he demanded cash from the tellers, and walked out with a wad of it. According to the New York Daily News, one bank customer thought the whole thing was a joke, breaking out into a fit of laughter and "shoving" the masked bandit. After being threatened at gun point, he took to the floor. The bank's surveillance cameras caught the thief in action, wielding his gun and stuffing cash into a satchel.

A tribute to Bill Watterson

Bill Watterson created one of the most endearing comic strips in history Calvin & Hobbes and when his comic run was finished he simply faded out of existence and back into his quiet life in Cleveland, OH. Never a man to look for accolades and accepting no merchandising offers on his beloved strip, Watterson was a true artist for the sake of his art. Over a decade after the last panel appeared in newspapers Calvin & Hobbes still maintains an impressive fan following (myself included). Dear Mr. Watterson is a film told by the fans and followers of Bill Watterson's work describing the impact that it has had on each of them. If you're a fan of Calvin & Hobbes, then this film is for you; if you're not, I suggest finding a bargain copy of one the many collections out there and allowing this mischievous little boy and his tiger to put a smile on your face like they have for so many others already. Dear Mr. Watterson is still in production and, as an independent film, is always looking for contributors. It's official: Norton is out, Ruffalo is in

Well, for all of you waiting with baited breath for Edward Norton and Marvel to reconcile and come to some agreement so that Norton could reprise his role of Bruce Banner for The Avengers movie, feel free to exhale. Mr. Norton is officially out and Mark Ruffalo has been named his successor. Ruffalo is a fine actor, but Norton has left some talented shoes to fill. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't more than a little disappointed by the whole fiasco, but I guess I'm willing to give Ruffalo the benefit of the doubt (though I still cringe every time I see Don Cheadle playing Rhodey in IM2).

Captain America's Shield

Here's a look at the shield the Chris Evans will be carrying through at least part of the upcoming Captain America movie. According to Evans, both his suit and his shield will make some changes throughout the course of the film, so we may not have even seen the modern costume yet, but I would bet that this is the shield that Cap ends up with. It looks like it could definitely do some damage.
